What if Eternity Was a Lie?

Every believer who knows in their heart of the existence of eternity thinks the above question is a crazy one. Well, so did I until someone asked me that very question. It went like: "what if after you die you find that it was all a lie, you find that there is no afterlife and hence no eternity with Christ?"
First I was like: well that is impossible because Christ has spoken about eternity, He is real, He is no man that He should lie so eternity definitely exists. But, I indulged my friend anyway and answered him. That answer is the birthplace of this post.
It is an answer that revealed to me the reason for choosing a life of Christianity. Yes, we are called into it but we have the option of saying no right? We also have the option of refusing to live in obedience. So why do we accept Christ in our hearts and lives? Is it so we can avoid hell and join Him in eternity in paradise?
If your reason for accepting Christ was so you could avoid hell and that never-ending fire, I am not here to judge you because most of our reasons were self-serving at best. Now, no matter what your reason for accepting Christ was, I believe that after getting to know Him a bit more, you have changed the reasons why you proclaim His name.
You have understood a little more what dying on the cross meant for you. You have seen traits He continually exhibits day in day out, traits that are mindblowing at how grand He is. You have seen His idea of love and you continue to wonder what He saw in you to make such a sacrifice.
You have seen his patience the many times you came to His feet in apologetic tears and yet He embraced you in warm love and understanding. You have seen hope! Hope in a world so rotten that you wonder how those who do not have Christ live with themselves. I mean in a world that is plagued with everything vile left right and center, isn't it wise to have hope such as this?
And finally, we review the question; what if eternity was a lie? Having known Christ or even the idea of Him that gives you so much hope, joy, and fulfillment, what would your answer be? I'll tell you what I said to my inquisitive friend: "I'll have no regrets!"
I will have no regrets because to regret is to say that whatever I have given up is worth more than whatever I have gained or that which I look forward to. I'll explain: my friends' intention in bringing up the question was this: what if you find out that eternity is a lie yet you denied yourself all this "fun"? Well, as someone who has already had a share of the so-called "fun", I'll tell you that I know I am not missing anything worthwhile. The fun is here one minute and it is gone the next. Whatever "fun" I had in my younger years came with so much baggage.
What baggage? Someone might ask. That question right there is what deception looks like. You feel like you are 100% okay, but the moment God starts dealing with you, you are left in awe at how much crap you were totting around.
So there you have it, knowing what you know about God, what would you feel if you found that eternity was a lie? Better yet, what would you do if come judgment day, He forgave everyone and said: "Come on right in and do not do it again! You are all forgiven!" Would you regret living for Him?
PS: This post is based on hypothetical situations that will not happen because as the word says; eternity is real and so is judgment. But I believe it helps you re-evaluate your relationship with Christ, Why are you born again?
God Bless you Fam! Until next time.
